Developed and produced by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions, Climate Insights 101 is a trilogy of animated and interactive courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of the causes of climate change, of how society can adapt, and the options for mitigation. Each course contains 3-4 lessons with test-your-knowledge sections. Teaching resources are also available to download from the site.

Each PIR Live Event webinar features a Q&A with a different guest expert and/or a virtual tour of a research facility — and it’s FREE to participate! Classrooms across Canada can join the discussion by submitting their questions during the webinar and getting answers in real time from our guest expert. If you can’t participate at the scheduled time for a PIR Live Event, you can submit your questions in advance to liveevent@pirweb.org and watch the video recording afterward on the Partners In Research YouTube channel with your class to hear the answers! Description
With animation, interactivity, and sound effects, Starting with Soil demonstrates how plants and animals cooperate to make the soil we need to grow healthy food. Kids learn that soil starts with bare rock and discover how long it takes nature to make one inch of topsoil. (Spoiler alert: it takes 500 years!) Different chapters convey the importance of pollinators and the critical roles animals, the weather, microorganisms, and cover crops play in organic farming. Designed for students ages 7-9, Starting with Soil allows users to plant seeds, build a compost pile, drag a microscope over different organisms in soil to get a better look, and view the symbiosis at work when corn, beans, and squash are planted together.
