- Description
- A project-based learning activity in which students assess their community's ability to respond to crises and develop ideas for making it more resilient. Students participate in project-based learning over several days as they assess their community's ability to respond to crises that threaten both natural and human systems. Then they develop ideas for redesigning their community to be more resilient.

- Description
- Students take a census of an outdoor site, and look for organisms that perform different “jobs” in the biotic community. A biotic (or natural) community is made up of the various organisms that live and interact with one another in a particular environment. As in a human community, its members have different roles and depend on each other for survival. In this activity, students examine a study area to find out what organisms live there and the ecological jobs or niches they fill.

- Description
- Engineering is a broad field that presents many opportunities for creative problem solving and hands-on learning. The engineering design cycle is a framework for thinking that can be broadly applied across all subjects and connects well to the new Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies curriculum. In this activity, students act as engineers and participate in a hands-on STEM lesson related to space science, while utilizing the engineering design cycle. Students will build a “Mars Lander” and test our their designs!

- Description
- PreparedBC’s Master of Disaster learning resources teach students the importance of knowing the risks, having a kit and having a plan as well as personal, household and neighbourhood preparedness. It is taught through three core modules, each with suggested learning outcomes, suggested activities and supporting interactive resources. Modules can be used in sequence or individually. Once all three modules are complete, students are officially a "Master of Disaster" and can receive their very own certificate of completion! All modules are customizable to suit the needs of each individual classroom. **If your classroom uses these resources, please provide feedback as outlined on the Master of Disaster website. Your students will be entered to win a draw for Master of Disaster prizes, including a starter emergency kit!**
