This is a lesson plan for teachers who may be new to teaching about gender identity and are looking for a safe way to explore the topic in class. This lesson uses the story "Red: A Crayon's Story" to talk about feelings and attitudes that people could have in various situations. The students are to cover a reading passage about Simon Fraser’s 1808 expedition and answer short-answer questions. It can be used as part of a larger unit on colonization, exploration, and/or Simon Fraser. Students can do this activity digitally or in hard copy. I provide a single-point rubric, but you may wish to add your own. Please feel free to modify.
