Description
Animation is a relatively overlooked area of art education and educators are not likely to have experience with the positive learning prospects that can be incorporated into the classroom. This medium proposes to encompass all teaching areas to broaden the spectrum of educational possibilities of all types of learners, including those with learning disabilities. Students and teachers show an enthusiasm for the medium but may lack the educational tools or, hold certain assumptions about animation that may make it a difficult medium to use within the confines of the classroom or institution. The intent of this project is to supply the reader with concrete forms and ideas that can assist educators in their attempts to integrate art education with different subject matter. Teaching aids such as simplified lesson plans for animation projects are included as well as discussions surrounding the benefits gained through using animation techniques and its historical development.

Description
Dancing Backwards Society's free, downloadable school program, www.dancingbackwards.ca, celebrates Canada's women in political leadership and Indigenous women in governance. This online course for teachers of grades 5-8 focuses on engaged citizenship, gender equality, and the need for gender parity in decision making. The program provides teachers with multi-media lesson plans and activities that culminate in a final project in which students discover and document the story of one political woman in leadership or governance in Canada. Their 3-minute storytellings are then added to the website’s ever-expanding Her Story Archive, cementing women’s political contributions into history. Dancing Backwards satisfies various curriculum criteria for BC and all other provinces in Social Studies, English, Arts Education, and History (https://www.dancingbackwards.ca/the-program/learning-standards-outcomes-by-province

Description
The Every Teacher Project is a national study of Canadian educators’ perceptions and experiences of LGBTQ-inclusive education, designed to identify and make widely available the collective expertise of teachers and educational workers on inclusive education practices for sexual and gender minority students. The Every Teacher Project attracted tremendous support from project partner The Manitoba Teachers’ Society and from every national, provincial and territorial teacher organization in the publicly funded school systems of Canada. With their help in recruiting, researchers completed the project with 3,400 survey participants and an additional 24 focus groups, far exceeding our initial goals and making this the largest study of its kind in the world to date. Description
In this 'Tools for Thought' lesson developed by The Critical Thinking Consortium (www.tc2.ca) students use visual clues to explain images. They develop an understanding of the importance of making plausible inferences about an image in order to gather information about a historical or contemporary situation or place. It includes instructional suggestions for teachers (learn about the strategy, practicing the strategy, independent student activities) and resources for students (data chart, rating scale, student guide, samples and self-assessment rubric). An additional 80 Tools for Thought lessons are available to either individual members of Partner schools, boards and/or districts.

Description
I followed a student outside and captured an ordinary moment. I reflected on what I saw. I talked to another teacher for their thoughts. I talked to the parent of the student for their thoughts. I connected his learning with the curriculum and thought about what I would do in the classroom to further his learning and the learning of others. A pedagogical narration is the process and framework I used to make learning visible.

How do you capture and share authentic learning moments and then add reflections and involve parents and other educators in the process? Use a pedagogical narration to make learning and thinking more visible for students, teachers, and parents. This sample explains the steps and shows an example you can follow with one of your students.

Resources shared are from the PSA Super Conference 2017 - Makerspace in the classroom workshop. Provides a big picture perspective of how MakerED connects to the new curriculum and ADST. Participants in this workshop will learn how the MakerEd movement with a STEAM focus is an effective way to integrate the Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST) curriculum into their classroom or school. We will explore the various buzzwords, resources, tools, technologies and potential assessment strategies found in classroom based makerspaces. Participants will have a hands on opportunity to explore littleBits (http://littlebits.cc/), Makey Makey (https://makeymakey.com/) and Micro:Bit tech (http://microbit.org/) and discuss strategies on how to connect ADST to a language arts/aboriginal unit.

Description
The National Inventory of School District Interventions in Support of LGBTQ Student Wellbeing was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of school-system interventions in reducing stigma and improving resilience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Two-Spirit, and queer and questioning (LGBTQ) students. It was conducted as part of the larger research program led by Dr. Elizabeth Saewyc at SARAVYC, UBC. The goal of this study was to identify which interventions have been implemented across Canada through an online survey of school district Superintendents/Directors, and what benefits were associated with the various interventions. The survey covered a range of possible interventions in support of LGBTQ students: LGBTQ-inclusive policy, generic and LGBTQ-specific harassment procedures, course content, GSAs, generic and LGBTQ-themed events, professional development, and teaching resources. Description
Do you want to make a parent cry when they get a report on their child, and cry in a good way? Want to honour a child and their family? Want to capture learning and make it visible? Want to be a reflective teacher? A pedagogical narration is something I wrote on each child in my classroom this year as a formal report. It is a story that allows one to see inside a child’s imagination and thinking. It allows teachers to link the demonstrated knowledge of the child to the curriculum and core competencies. It's a wonderful way to honour the child.
