- The Healthy Habits Challenge is a 30 day initiative where students can track 6 healthy habits on an online platform. Data is sent weekly to teachers. The Healthy Habits notes are: healthy eating, physical activity, screen time, water intake, sleep time, and mental health (journaling). Challenges are run three times per year and classes or whole schools can sign up. The entire challenge is turnkey and all resources are FREE. The challenges are supported by our team, our resources, and prizes can include athlete visits, gym banners for most active schools, and much more. The goal of the challenges are to instil healthy habits at the elementary school age and allow the students to learn about accountability and goal setting while providing data on progress.

- Description
- Animation is a relatively overlooked area of art education and educators are not likely to have experience with the positive learning prospects that can be incorporated into the classroom. This medium proposes to encompass all teaching areas to broaden the spectrum of educational possibilities of all types of learners, including those with learning disabilities. Students and teachers show an enthusiasm for the medium but may lack the educational tools or, hold certain assumptions about animation that may make it a difficult medium to use within the confines of the classroom or institution. The intent of this project is to supply the reader with concrete forms and ideas that can assist educators in their attempts to integrate art education with different subject matter. Teaching aids such as simplified lesson plans for animation projects are included as well as discussions surrounding the benefits gained through using animation techniques and its historical development.

My resource is an update on the science of climate change, extreme weather, protecting nature and biodiversity, advancing renewable energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions with frequent reference to Canada and in particular British Columbia. Global impacts, mitigation and adaptation are explained throughout the text. My ten years of research cites reputable journals, national and international organizations and the media. Research covers climate change from the Arctic to the Antarctic, projection of climate change, how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, El Nino/La Nina, extreme weather, renewables, the oil sands and transport of bitumen, and Canada's contribution at the UN COP meetings. It was developed to support a seminar series conducted by the Centre for the Study of Educational Leadership and Policy (CSELP) at SFU. The tool kit could be useful for staff meetings, school-based team meetings or union executive meetings for example. - In this activity, students investigate the fascinating and complex process of decomposition and lay the foundation for deeper understanding of concepts related to matter and energy transfer in ecosystems. Through exploration and discussion, students go beyond simple definitions. Instead, students discover key characteristics of decomposition as they struggle with creating a sequence for decomposing wood and leaves. They learn the difference between physical decomposition and chemical decomposition and that many things contribute to decomposition, but certain organisms are classified as decomposers. They also search for and discuss evidence of decomposers, make model diagrams to further develop their ideas about the process of decomposition, and discuss decomposition and its role in the cycling of matter. Finally, students are challenged to recognize the evidence and impact of decomposition in the ecosystems they explore.

- The Every Teacher Project is a national study of Canadian educators’ perceptions and experiences of LGBTQ-inclusive education, designed to identify and make widely available the collective expertise of teachers and educational workers on inclusive education practices for sexual and gender minority students. The Every Teacher Project attracted tremendous support from project partner The Manitoba Teachers’ Society and from every national, provincial and territorial teacher organization in the publicly funded school systems of Canada. With their help in recruiting, researchers completed the project with 3,400 survey participants and an additional 24 focus groups, far exceeding our initial goals and making this the largest study of its kind in the world to date. - The Forced from Home educational tool kit was developed by Doctors Without Borders to bring to light the daily challenges faced by the millions of displaced people around the world. Students will explore: The push Factors: The issues that cause people to flee their homes, such as conflict, persecution, and natural disasters. On the Move: How people navigate their journeys and cope with their vulnerabilities to exploitation, disease, and other challenges. Legal Status: The rights of displaced people as they flee their homes and the obligations of the international community to assist them. Basic Needs & Shelter: How people find and cook food, maintain basic hygiene, and seek shelter. Health Care: The medical needs of refugee populations and the challenges faced by humanitarian agencies in providing care.

The resource helps facilitate understanding of IHL and humanitarian issues and allows the user to experience what it is like for young people living in situations of armed conflict around the world. Teachers can use this resource in collaboration with the lesson plans available in the teaching resources links or they can choose to use it as a stand-alone activity to trigger critical thinking and classroom discussion on issues related to armed conflict. - The Vancouver Canucks ®, in collaboration with the NHL® and the NHLPA, are excited to announce a new education initiative called Future Goals. The Future Goals program makes two digital learning resources available to your district at no cost. Future Goals - Hockey Scholar is for students in grades 5-7, exploring real-life applications of STEM concepts such as area/volume of an ice rink, conservation of energy of a falling puck, and speed/velocity using skates. This will be available Summer 2015 (in both English and French). The other resource is our digital citizenship resource. It's available now and also no cost to your school. This is a web-based course for students in grades 5-8, covering topics such as cyberbullying, online safety and conducting online research.
