- Description
- Students are invited to create a survival plan of what they would need to survive if they were to live outside in their local habitat. They can only take from the earth and land and must consider factors like season, weather, habitat and ecosystem. "Netukulimk explains Mi’kmaw ways of life, tying together social and economic practices with systems of governance through time. Living in harmony, and taking only what you need, is the true essence of Indigenous ways of being and living." (Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre). Our linked video explores the concept in an accessible way for children and teenagers. Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre has an extensive guide about Teaching About the Mi'kmaq (pdf). This activity is one of our Indigenous perspectives content pieces. More to come. This activity is one of our Inquiry-tools (activities that encourage students to think about what they know and how they learn).

- Description
- These worksheets are designed for grades 9 or 10 students who are studying meal planning and budget foods. The meal planning worksheet takes students through the meal planning section in the "Food for Life" textbook. The second worksheet gives the ingredient list for "Spanish Rice" and asks students to cost out the recipe. The prices of some staples are provided, but teachers may also like to use weekly grocery store flyers as a resource.
