- Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Bea Zucco” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The lesson examines the work of Bea Zucco who championed the rights of workers afflicted by occupation related illnesses following the death of her husband who had been exposed to asbestos in the work place. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. En plus de lire le récit, les enfants peuvent s'amuser à colorier les illustrations qui égaient la publication. En outre, Claire et son grand-père sert de point de départ à d'autres activités connexes que les enseignants peuvent intégrer au programme pédagogique actuel. Il y a certes plusieurs façons de présenter ce sujet aux élèves afin de le rendre intéressant. Voici quelques activités que l'on suggère.

- Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Fishermen’s Strike of 1900" from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette explores the tensions between the Cannery owners and the newly formed B.C. Fishermen’s Union the late 19th-early 20th century. The supporting lesson materials focus on the role and challenges of Frank Rogers efforts to organize and protect the rights of fishermen in the face of cannery owners opposition. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. Elements of the “Economy and Technology” learning outcomes are discussed in the examination of resource development and technological innovations. Additionally, aspects of the environmental impact and attitudes towards resource extraction are developed as they relate to the “Environment” learning outcome of the IRP.

The units contain all of the necessary handouts and materials to be easily utilized in the classroom setting and are consistent with the outcomes of the BC Curriculum. The creation of this site and the units were made possible through a joint CIDA and BCTF project.

- This lesson introduces students to the Renaissance by focusing on art history and important innovations in the art world. Students learn to define a variety of art terms associated with the Renaissance and the Middle Ages and engage with the concept of visual symbolism. Students work towards writing a structured, descriptive paragraph outlining their own imagined symbolic Renaissance Portrait. By using writing planners and scaffolds, students write how they use symbolism to represent 5 of their personality traits in their Renaissance-inspired portrait. This lesson was originally designed for use in a Humanities 8 class (with scaffolding for ELL students). This lesson could be adapted for use in a variety of Art, Social Studies, English, and ELL contexts.

- Voices into Action is an online, bilingual, ERAC approved curriculum-based educational resource providing students with information on issues regarding human rights, prejudice, and hatred. Designed by curriculum experts, this program utilizes a wide variety of media (short documentary style films and compelling visuals) to present information on a history of human suffering, stemming from social injustice that is still a growing problem today. While meeting curriculum requirements, you can help students become better people, and make your classroom a better place for learning. Our media resources, along with teacher-led dialogue, give students many perspectives to consider, with opportunities for critical thinking and creative response.
