Expose students to some of the more commonly useful idiomatic expressions in French (which are quite different than their English counterparts). I have my students pronounce the expressions in French before we look at the pictures that depict their meanings and then explain what the expression means. Students then use their new knowledge to describe each photo speaking ... en français!

Cette leçon s'inscrit dans une leçon sur la poésie comme moyen d'expression de notre ressenti, de nos émotions etc. Les activités sont fondées sur l'étude de poèmes d'élèves francophones, simples, accessibles, du recueil Hochelaga mon quartier. Les poèmes d'enfants montrent que l'expression poétique est accessible à tous, et peut entrer dans notre quotidien. L'objectif pour cette leçon est de familiariser les étudiants avec l'utilisation d'image (comparaison) et la phrase exclamative pour faire passer une charge émotionnelle dans un message.

Description
This lesson introduces students to the Renaissance by focusing on art history and important innovations in the art world. Students learn to define a variety of art terms associated with the Renaissance and the Middle Ages and engage with the concept of visual symbolism. Students work towards writing a structured, descriptive paragraph outlining their own imagined symbolic Renaissance Portrait. By using writing planners and scaffolds, students write how they use symbolism to represent 5 of their personality traits in their Renaissance-inspired portrait. This lesson was originally designed for use in a Humanities 8 class (with scaffolding for ELL students). This lesson could be adapted for use in a variety of Art, Social Studies, English, and ELL contexts.
