Description
In this 'Tools for Thought' lesson developed by The Critical Thinking Consortium (www.tc2.ca) students use visual clues to explain images. They develop an understanding of the importance of making plausible inferences about an image in order to gather information about a historical or contemporary situation or place. It includes instructional suggestions for teachers (learn about the strategy, practicing the strategy, independent student activities) and resources for students (data chart, rating scale, student guide, samples and self-assessment rubric). An additional 80 Tools for Thought lessons are available to either individual members of Partner schools, boards and/or districts.

Description
The Israel-Palestine conflict is one of the most controversial issues in our contemporary world. This unit approaches the conflict through the vehicle of narrative constructed through the judicious use of facts and perspectives. The unit materials include a broad spectrum of resources, lesson plans and student assignments that will produce multiple narratives based on individual perspectives. The unit, which was initiated by the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) Representative Assembly, closes with a critical thinking exercise that asks students to identify the obstacles to peace and write their own narrative about the conflict.

Most viewed on Miss Casella's Classroom. Sherman Smith saw the most terrible thing happen. We the readers are not informed of what it was. This story is gently told and illustrated. It is a call-out to reinforce how negative emotions manifest inside of us. Violent acts, don't always have to be stereotype examples involving people. Violence includes natural disasters, like floods or hurricanes. A car accident or a fire are other examples. Please know, we are all wearing the ruby slippers. We all have the power within ourselves to move forward in our lives. No, it isn't always easy. Remember, taking the first step, in anything, is the hardest step. Talk to someone today!
