- Description
- Students become detectives and create a case file which presents everything you can learn about a cod when you dissect it. This is a cod body-part labeling activity. We recommend that your child/student watch the linked video in the presentation for the full educational experience. This activity pairs well with our interactive cod dissection: Anatomy of a cod (an analysis activity about the health of a stock of cod) (linked in links).

Ocean School aligns with BC (and other provincial) curriculums in multiple areas. - Description
- Students are invited to create a survival plan of what they would need to survive if they were to live outside in their local habitat. They can only take from the earth and land and must consider factors like season, weather, habitat and ecosystem. "Netukulimk explains Mi’kmaw ways of life, tying together social and economic practices with systems of governance through time. Living in harmony, and taking only what you need, is the true essence of Indigenous ways of being and living." (Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre). Our linked video explores the concept in an accessible way for children and teenagers. Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre has an extensive guide about Teaching About the Mi'kmaq (pdf). This activity is one of our Indigenous perspectives content pieces. More to come. This activity is one of our Inquiry-tools (activities that encourage students to think about what they know and how they learn).
