Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "The Professionals” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. A short profile on Ethel Johns, an important figure in the history of nursing in British Columbia. Lesson materials examine the changing role of women in the nursing workforce from 1900-1960 . An extension activity also examines the Nurses Strike of 1989. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. Learning Standards
The materials address aspects of the key learning standards of the current social studies 10 curriculum. Critical thinking skills are applied throughout as well as research and writing skills as described in the “Social studies inquiry processes and skills”. Aspects of historical significance, continuity and change, evidence and perspective are addressed in the materials as they examine the changing roles of women in British Columbian society as they work towards improving working conditions and recognition in the nursing profession.

Description
These steps document the journey which I undertook (and am still undertaking) to understand my emotional reactions and growth to the idea of decolonizing my thinking teaching, and classroom. Moving from ignorance to denial to communication, the steps are a reminder to me that I have come a long way in imbuing Indigenous content and ways of knowing in my French classroom, but I still have a long way to go.

Help children connect breathing, practiced through yoga poses, to physical and emotional benefits. This lesson plan uses a child-friendly illustrated book of yoga poses but it could also be paired with another Heart-Mind Online resource, Yoga in the Classroom for a more formal routine using mats.
