- The Healthy Habits Challenge is a 30 day initiative where students can track 6 healthy habits on an online platform. Data is sent weekly to teachers. The Healthy Habits notes are: healthy eating, physical activity, screen time, water intake, sleep time, and mental health (journaling). Challenges are run three times per year and classes or whole schools can sign up. The entire challenge is turnkey and all resources are FREE. The challenges are supported by our team, our resources, and prizes can include athlete visits, gym banners for most active schools, and much more. The goal of the challenges are to instil healthy habits at the elementary school age and allow the students to learn about accountability and goal setting while providing data on progress.

In a province as vast as British Columbia, the focus in this film is the introduction of sternwheelers and steamships that allowed greater movement and mobility and how they impacted the development of the colony and province in the Gold Rush era and beyond. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. My resource is an update on the science of climate change, extreme weather, protecting nature and biodiversity, advancing renewable energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions with frequent reference to Canada and in particular British Columbia. Global impacts, mitigation and adaptation are explained throughout the text. My ten years of research cites reputable journals, national and international organizations and the media. Research covers climate change from the Arctic to the Antarctic, projection of climate change, how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, El Nino/La Nina, extreme weather, renewables, the oil sands and transport of bitumen, and Canada's contribution at the UN COP meetings. It’s intended to give students Grades 8 to 12 the opportunity to learn about species at risk in British Columbia in their local environment, understand the threats and identify what they can do to help. Module 1 is an introduction to species at risk while Module 2 specifically focuses on amphibians. Each module uses a project-based learning approach where students will be introduced to the topic, then develop field investigative skills and participate in citizen science. Our resource contains links to valuable multimedia resources as well as ideas to help students connect with species at risk in their community.

- The material offers an introduction to refugee and displacement issues for students in grade 6 and up. The educational resources are the result of a collaborative effort between the graduate school class (summer 2008) of Dr. Jan Stewart, Director of the Institute for War-Affected Children at Global College, University of Winnipeg and Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF). The materials were developed based upon an earlier MSF educational publication: “A Refugee Camp in the City, On Assignment” Teachers Guide, MSF Canada (2003). We hope these five lesson plans will encourage students to continue to learn and understand the challenges more than 50 million refugees and internally displaced people face worldwide

- I followed a student outside and captured an ordinary moment. I reflected on what I saw. I talked to another teacher for their thoughts. I talked to the parent of the student for their thoughts. I connected his learning with the curriculum and thought about what I would do in the classroom to further his learning and the learning of others. A pedagogical narration is the process and framework I used to make learning visible.

- Link to Laura Candler's File Cabinet on Cooperative Learning: Cooperative learning is a powerful teaching strategy that's more than just a passing fad. Research has shown that when implemented properly, students in cooperative learning classrooms outperform their peers in traditional classrooms. The key is knowing how to implement the strategies to foster interaction while making sure all students are held accountable. Dr. Spencer Kagan developed the "structural" approach to cooperative learning, and I've found it to be extremely effective. I highly recommend his book Cooperative Learning which is available from Amazon.com.

- Printing Like a Pro! Printing Like a Pro! is a free cognitively-based printing program for the primary grades. It is evidence-based and designed for classroom use and for use with students who have printing/handwriting challenges. This program uses a developmental framework, teaching letters from easiest to hardest to form. Cognitive strategies include use of self-talk, and self-reflection and evaluation with a focus on key strategies for neat printing. Worksheet sets include letters, words, and sight word sentences as well as numbers. - At this point in the course, students are already familiar, with the verb “Ser”, as well as greetings, numbers, and the verbs gustar/encantar. The lesson will focus on the main differences between the verbs Ser vs Estar which are a couple of the most used verbs in the Spanish language. Another reason as to why I am focusing on these verbs is the fact that this pair of verbs can be particularly tricky for those who speak English as their first language, because they are both encompassed by the verb “to be”.

- Do you want to make a parent cry when they get a report on their child, and cry in a good way? Want to honour a child and their family? Want to capture learning and make it visible? Want to be a reflective teacher? A pedagogical narration is something I wrote on each child in my classroom this year as a formal report. It is a story that allows one to see inside a child’s imagination and thinking. It allows teachers to link the demonstrated knowledge of the child to the curriculum and core competencies. It's a wonderful way to honour the child.
