- Description
- Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Solidarity” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette examines the response of labour, social groups and environmentalists to sweeping changes introduced by the Social Credit government in 1983. The resulting coalition of protests groups pushed the province to the verge of a general strike before a mediated solution was achieved by Jack Munro. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. - Description
- Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Where the Fraser River Flows” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette explores the issues and tensions behind the Fraser River strike of 1912 during the construction of the Great Northern Railroad. The lesson materials focus on strategies used by the workers to gain better working conditions and wages by uniting labour across ethnic divisions of the time. The use of workers’ songs is profiled in this lesson. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history.
