Description
During the activity, students pick up a natural object, such as a leaf, and make “I notice…” statements out loud with a partner, then share some of their observations with the group. They do the same with “I wonder…” questions, and with “It reminds me of…” connections. Then, students practice using these tools while exploring whatever they find interesting. This simple routine can help students get beyond seeing nature as a “green blur,” and lead them to never be bored in nature again.

Description
I use this lesson at the beginning of the year. It gives students ample time to develop and refine their knowledge, as well as their ability to self-monitor and adjust their physical exertion levels. Throughout the year, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate various methods to achieve their desired levels of physical exertion based on the type of physical activity they are participating in. As students learn about the various health benefits associated with active living, and about those related to different levels of physical exertion, they will have the opportunity to explore and reflect on their own efforts both in and out of school.

Description
PreparedBC’s Master of Disaster learning resources teach students the importance of knowing the risks, having a kit and having a plan as well as personal, household and neighbourhood preparedness. It is taught through three core modules, each with suggested learning outcomes, suggested activities and supporting interactive resources. Modules can be used in sequence or individually. Once all three modules are complete, students are officially a "Master of Disaster" and can receive their very own certificate of completion! All modules are customizable to suit the needs of each individual classroom. **If your classroom uses these resources, please provide feedback as outlined on the Master of Disaster website. Your students will be entered to win a draw for Master of Disaster prizes, including a starter emergency kit!**
