Description
In this activity the students read two newspaper articles about Adolf Hitler's "Knight of the Long Knives" and Joseph Stalin's "The Great Terror" purges. The students need to read the newspaper articles and answer short-answer questions. Students should already have a fairly general knowledge of Hitler and Stalin and be familiar with the concept of “purge.” The newspaper articles may be difficult for some students to comprehend, and this should be a consideration. You may wish to combine the documents into a single PDF to distribute to your students. I provide a single-point rubric, but this can be easily changed.
