Description
Improve the content of your students' essays by having them view a couple of documentary films and create a writing response. They will take ideas from the film of their choice, develop their own ideas in response to it, agree or disagree, and choose a composition type that will best suit their topic. Then they will write their essay and go through a peer editing process to revise it. Finally they will submit a good copy to you. A specific rubric for marking it is included as well.

The Vancouver Canucks ®, in collaboration with the NHL® and the NHLPA, are excited to announce a new education initiative called Future Goals. The Future Goals program makes two digital learning resources available to your district at no cost. Future Goals - Hockey Scholar is for students in grades 5-7, exploring real-life applications of STEM concepts such as area/volume of an ice rink, conservation of energy of a falling puck, and speed/velocity using skates. This will be available Summer 2015 (in both English and French). The other resource is our digital citizenship resource. It's available now and also no cost to your school. This is a web-based course for students in grades 5-8, covering topics such as cyberbullying, online safety and conducting online research.

For millennia, music has had a deep and abiding role in human culture. It affects and reflects historical, social, ethnic, religious, philosophical, and aesthetic contexts and practices. This lesson asks students to consider the role that music has played – and continues to play – in the human experience, in society as a whole as well as in their individual lives. The songs provided all provide opportunity to reflect on these issues, and in particular how music might affect and reflect attitudes towards alcohol or other drugs.

My recommendations for 'Green Reads for Children Book List 1' was developed through the casting of a large net, taking into consideration suggestions from the BCTF PSA groups (2015, 2016), my fine colleagues at DLG and Champlain Annex in Vancouver, literary reviews on the web, and the Vancouver and Delta libraries, as well as parents and children. These 13 books are my personal outdoor education / spiritual "gems".
