This guide provides teachers with a framework for teaching environmental education through an integrated approach. Facilitating environmental education within all curriculum areas rather than isolating it shows the importance of the environment on students’ daily lives and within their community. The Experiential Learning Cycle Model (direct experience, critical reflection, conceptionalization) is explained. As well, the principals for conceptualizing environmental education are described through the CARE model (complexity, aesthetics, responsibility, and ethics).

Description
Improve the content of your students' essays by having them view a couple of documentary films and create a writing response. They will take ideas from the film of their choice, develop their own ideas in response to it, agree or disagree, and choose a composition type that will best suit their topic. Then they will write their essay and go through a peer editing process to revise it. Finally they will submit a good copy to you. A specific rubric for marking it is included as well.

Description
This fun-filled activity allows students to put on a simple production of "T'was the night before Christmas" in both French and English. In order to provide maximum participation, a teacher may wish to divide the lines of this classic poem so that each student recites 2 or 3 lines at a time. Each student would bring props, costumes and any set designs they wish. Be sure to allow students to take ownership of all aspects of the production (casting roles, direction, costumes, speech coaches, props manager, etc.). In the end, be sure to invite other classes to come watch this 5 minute performance. It's sure to put a jolly smile on students' faces.

The Vancouver Canucks ®, in collaboration with the NHL® and the NHLPA, are excited to announce a new education initiative called Future Goals. The Future Goals program makes two digital learning resources available to your district at no cost. Future Goals - Hockey Scholar is for students in grades 5-7, exploring real-life applications of STEM concepts such as area/volume of an ice rink, conservation of energy of a falling puck, and speed/velocity using skates. This will be available Summer 2015 (in both English and French). The other resource is our digital citizenship resource. It's available now and also no cost to your school. This is a web-based course for students in grades 5-8, covering topics such as cyberbullying, online safety and conducting online research.

Description
This assignment creates awareness around homophobic bullying in secondary schools and the devastating consequences it has for some youth. Furthermore, it encourages students to promote a learning environment that is welcoming and accepting of everyone. After hearing some of the statistics around LGBTQ youth suicide and depression, students will learn about the “It Gets Better” project started by Dan Savage, an author and newspaper columnist from the USA. This project asks students to reflect on the harmful effects of homophobic bullying and invites them to promote a school environment that allows people to be themselves free of judgment and harassment. Description
Animals are vulnerable beings in that they are subjected to situations beyond their control. Using animals as a bridge to discuss social justice issues can be a way to ease students into more sensitive and personal social justice issues such as racism and stereotyping. Included in this package are some outlined activities and discussion questions that should get the conversation started. These are designed to encourage students to think critically about where their beliefs and ideas come from and help them in their future discussions about issues involving people in society, as well as give them a chance to reflect on their own views on animals.

Description
For decades, people have debated the question: Is there a Scientific Basis for Race? The answer is…still under discussion. Many argue that race is socially constructed and that we are all part of the same human race. At the same time, scientists continue to research health issues, like sickle-cell anemia or diabetes, that impact some racial communities more than others. Why? Your assignment is to explore a topic in which Scientists have explored or had to address the idea of race! This could be with regards to medicine, sports, public health, scientific testing, genetics, and more.

Cultures around the world may vary, but one thing is common: wherever we find people, we also find cats and dogs. These education resources, lessons and worksheets aim to educate students about the characteristics of cats and dogs and their needs as domesticated animals. The lessons, student reading, video and activities provide more than just facts about cats and dogs. They help students understand the unique relationships these animals have shared with people for thousands of years. The lesson plans and activities also encourage your students to examine and discuss the important responsibilities people have in caring for cats and dogs and the many different ways that people live with these animals around the world, from country to country and culture to culture.

The Kids of Kayele is an online game that uses video, photos, trivia and interactive game play, to teach students about global water and sanitation issues. Players assume the role of exchange students that must maintain the health of their friends, while visiting Zambia. Through the game students learn about human impact on water quality, microbiological contamination, current practices and technologies that affect water quality and problems that require both technological and social solutions. The clues to stay healthy during the game are provided by the Kids of Kayele, a group of youth from a hygiene club in Zambia. This resource includes a lesson plan explaining how to play the video game, as well as a lesson to debrief learning.

Tikho’s Story is a slideshow CAWST’s Youth Wavemakers made with a young girl in Zambia named Tikho. Tikho took video and photos to document the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues her community is facing. Tikho is the daughter of Gladys, a nurse who works at Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SHIP), CAWST’s WET Centre in Zambia. Students hear about WASH issues in from Tikho’s perspective. They also receive an overall message of hope, as Tikho shares the solutions implemented by her community to prevent disease caused by poor WASH. This slideshow also comes with a lesson plan, games, and action planning resources for students who want to get involved.
