- Description
- This fun-filled activity allows students to put on a simple production of "T'was the night before Christmas" in both French and English. In order to provide maximum participation, a teacher may wish to divide the lines of this classic poem so that each student recites 2 or 3 lines at a time. Each student would bring props, costumes and any set designs they wish. Be sure to allow students to take ownership of all aspects of the production (casting roles, direction, costumes, speech coaches, props manager, etc.). In the end, be sure to invite other classes to come watch this 5 minute performance. It's sure to put a jolly smile on students' faces.

- A free online course created by TRAC Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre and the Justice Education Society. Designed for first-time renters, the course covers both practical and legal topics to consider before deciding to rent. Students can complete activities such as creating a budget, thinking about their housing needs, preparing a list of references, writing a cover letter and pet resume, and ordering a credit report. The course is video-based, and sections can be viewed in any order. Students who complete the course and pass the final exam earn a certificate that can be presented to landlords when they apply for tenancy. By completing the course, students will be better equipped to find rental housing and succeed in their tenancies. Core skills, such as financial literacy, smart decision making, effective communication, and problem solving are a key focus of the material.

- Description
- The Digitized Okanagan History project provides online access to historical materials from BC's Southern Interior. We digitize photographs, documents, maps, newspapers, and other records held by local museums and archives. These are excellent materials for teaching about local history, the Okanagan region, primary sources, and other creative topics. Students can find images of the Okanagan from over 100 years ago to inspire their curiosity and complement their work.

- Description
- THESA has taken some time to create some weekly lessons that can be used directly or adapted to suit the needs of your learners. The focus of the lessons is to use the home as the space for learning. The possibility of running out and purchasing supplies, ingredients, or material may not be feasible for students and their families during this pandemic time. However, the rich experiences that already exist in the home have the potential to be amplified through intentional activities, reflection, and design. You will notice that our lessons are directed at students. We have created resources that speak directly to students so that they can be adapted readily for your classes.

- 'Green Reads' for Environmental Learning for Children - Book / Media List 2 - is organized by 6 themes. The categories start with the internal / personal connection to nature and progress to the 'global citizenship' level. I do not see the levels as being sequential; each learning group will have its interests and curricular to consider. There are 54 recommended reads in total (to date).

- A 'Book and Media List' of reviewed literature and media (film, websites) for children. This "green reads" book and media list was compiled over several years as part of a BCTF Inquiry Project with TELA and EEPSA members. The final inquiry question was: As an elementary teacher, how can I use selected children's literature and media as a springboard for experiencing and connecting to nature in our school and community environments?

- *This lesson requires the use of an app. Teachers are reminded that they should check their school and district social media policies before implementing this in their classroom.* The digital world can be a positive community for kids and adults to express themselves and their creativity, but it also can have many pitfalls for kids to navigate on their own. At Mazu our users are learning to embrace the positive power of social media in a safe, curated space free of negativity, but we don’t want to stop there! We believe digital citizenship needs to be discussed and taught at an early age, so we invite your class to join our movement. You can help us to facilitate discussions on what it means to be a good digital citizen, and how we all have a part to play in making the online world a positive place. We’ve provided a sample lesson plan for you and some supplementary materials, feel free to use them to spark discussion and to add your own ideas. Become a part of our movement, discuss, create, and inspire what it means to be a good digital citizen!

- Move on from the dusty text books of classic essays in your bookroom and inspire your students with essays and creative writing published TODAY. In this series of lessons we use the website medium.com to access a wide variety of texts published on line. Students, read, share with a partner, analyse, present, and subsequently write a piece of their choice which they publish either publicly or unlisted. It offers students an opportunity to see how writers are publishing on line, the incredible range of topics that are being explored, and to see themselves as consumers of current writing and as writers themselves.

- Resources shared are from the PSA Super Conference 2017 - Makerspace in the classroom workshop. Provides a big picture perspective of how MakerED connects to the new curriculum and ADST. Participants in this workshop will learn how the MakerEd movement with a STEAM focus is an effective way to integrate the Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST) curriculum into their classroom or school. We will explore the various buzzwords, resources, tools, technologies and potential assessment strategies found in classroom based makerspaces. Participants will have a hands on opportunity to explore littleBits (http://littlebits.cc/), Makey Makey (https://makeymakey.com/) and Micro:Bit tech (http://microbit.org/) and discuss strategies on how to connect ADST to a language arts/aboriginal unit.

- Description
- The lesson will start with a discussion of how students use their smartphones, then students will play the game and analyze the main character’s choices. Students will brainstorm examples outside of the game of how data collection influences their online habits. From there the class will segue into a discussion of how privacy and convenience become a “tradeoff” at levels of smartphone use, and how comfortable we as smartphone users are in making that trade. After this discussion, students will write a short reflection of roughly 3–5 sentences about which tradeoffs, and to what degree, they feel comfortable making in their smartphone use.

- This will be an introductory lesson to issues with smartphone usage, focusing on online privacy and data collection. This lesson uses a game to introduce these concepts, and possible actions to take to protect oneself. The game covers the themes of privacy, surveillance, and online safety, while being short and accessible. It is designed to be accessible, but teachers may need to make additional accommodations or construct a different activity for ELL students, depending on the situation.
