Learning Standards

The Edge of the World: BC's Early Years is a series of short documentaries I produced and directed for the Knowledge Network about the early history of British Columbia. Presented as a series of engaging 20 short documentaries, this DVD is an excellent starting point for discussions about 19th century life and politics in Canada and the province. Expose students to some of the more commonly useful idiomatic expressions in French (which are quite different than their English counterparts). I have my students pronounce the expressions in French before we look at the pictures that depict their meanings and then explain what the expression means. Description
Resources shared are from the PSA Super Conference 2017 - Makerspace in the classroom workshop. Provides a big picture perspective of how MakerED connects to the new curriculum and ADST. Participants in this workshop will learn how the MakerEd movement with a STEAM focus is an effective way to integrate the Applied Design, Skills and Technology (ADST) curriculum into their classroom or school. We will explore the various buzzwords, resources, tools, technologies and potential assessment strategies found in classroom based makerspaces. Participants will have a hands on opportunity to explore littleBits (http://littlebits.cc/), Makey Makey (https://makeymakey.com/) and Micro:Bit tech (http://microbit.org/) and discuss strategies on how to connect ADST to a language arts/aboriginal unit.
