- Les élèves pourraient être appelés à : - décrire la façon dont les Autochtones ont participé à l'évolution du Canada (par exemple, aux chapitres de l'alimentation, du transport, de l'exploration, des arts et de la technologie); - reconnaître les contributions que les Autochtones ont apportées aux établissements de colonisation; - décrire diverses plantes utilisées dans la préparation de mets (par exemple, les légumes, les fruits, les épices et les fines herbes); - connaître des noms de lieux autochtones. En plus de lire le récit, les enfants peuvent s'amuser à colorier les illustrations qui égaient la publication. En outre, Claire et son grand-père sert de point de départ à d'autres activités connexes que les enseignants peuvent intégrer au programme pédagogique actuel. Il y a certes plusieurs façons de présenter ce sujet aux élèves afin de le rendre intéressant. Voici quelques activités que l'on suggère.

- This power point exposes students to some of the more common idiomatic expressions with Avoid and Être in French and helps students to remember them so they can be used spontaneously in the classroom.

- Expose students to some of the more commonly useful idiomatic expressions in French (which are quite different than their English counterparts). I have my students pronounce the expressions in French before we look at the pictures that depict their meanings and then explain what the expression means. Students then use their new knowledge to describe each photo speaking ... en français!

- This activity explains the history of the Chinese calendar and celebration of Chinese New Year. Students will make comparisons between the Chinese and Gregorian calendars and examine characteristics and elements of the year of the Ox.

- This three-page information package highlights this year's Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox. Students learn about the characteristics of an Ox, including well-known celebrities who are also Oxes. As well, students will learn about the history and origins of the Chinese calendar and will identify the similarities and differences between the Chinese and more popular Gregorian calendar. Finally, students can respond to reading comprehension questions.
