- Description
- Gratitude is linked with many physical, social and emotional benefits and is an important skill to foster with children and youth. When choosing an action to do so, however, research indicates that if the activity is forced or feels like homework it isn’t a good match. The outcome isn’t authentic and the results fall short of the potential benefits that experiencing gratitude offers. The most effective gratitude activities are ones that engage children’s interests and strengths.

- Description
- A Getting to Know You Session is intended to provide clarity about both the differences and the similarities between the “focus child” and the other students. Using a powerpoint presentation and class dialogue, photos of the child help to correct assumptions, provide accurate information and begin to remove hesitations about getting to know their classmate. To be successful, it requires an adult facilitator who is able to model non-judgmental, curious and accepting behaviours and who has a relationship with the parents or caregivers of the focus child.

- Description
- The activity introduces students to the mindful practice of yoga which cultivates self-regulation by focusing on controlled movements combined with breathing awareness. Some studies suggest a positive connection between mindful practice (including yoga and breathing) and children's capacity to cope with stress, manage emotions and improve concentration.
