Description
This lesson introduces students to the Renaissance by focusing on art history and important innovations in the art world. Students learn to define a variety of art terms associated with the Renaissance and the Middle Ages and engage with the concept of visual symbolism. Students work towards writing a structured, descriptive paragraph outlining their own imagined symbolic Renaissance Portrait. By using writing planners and scaffolds, students write how they use symbolism to represent 5 of their personality traits in their Renaissance-inspired portrait. This lesson was originally designed for use in a Humanities 8 class (with scaffolding for ELL students). This lesson could be adapted for use in a variety of Art, Social Studies, English, and ELL contexts.

Core competencies are sets of intellectual, personal, and social and emotional proficiencies that all students need to develop in order to engage in deep learning and life-long learning. Welcome to Miss. Casella's Classroom! This is intended to provide free math and literacy lessons, as well as, to have an ongoing conversation with like-minded people. Emphasis is placed on social emotional learning, mystery, creativity, and imagination. Strongly, as a public educator, I feel these elements help to evoke independent critical thinking skills, while opening a gateway to optimism. Personally, I love philosophical metacognitive conversations. Inside all of us, there is a child. Let that child play. Fully, I support play-based learning/inquiry-based learning at all levels of learning. In these environments, people thrive by having the opportunity to do their own thinking, reaching their own conclusions independently or in a group. Centers, give way to incorporate the multiple intelligences and differentiated learning. Is it farfetched to believe Big Foot exists? Do fairies really exist? Why you ask? Well...why not! Dinosaurs once ruled this planet.

A free online course created by TRAC Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre and the Justice Education Society. Designed for first-time renters, the course covers both practical and legal topics to consider before deciding to rent. Students can complete activities such as creating a budget, thinking about their housing needs, preparing a list of references, writing a cover letter and pet resume, and ordering a credit report. The course is video-based, and sections can be viewed in any order. Students who complete the course and pass the final exam earn a certificate that can be presented to landlords when they apply for tenancy. By completing the course, students will be better equipped to find rental housing and succeed in their tenancies. Core skills, such as financial literacy, smart decision making, effective communication, and problem solving are a key focus of the material.
