Learning for Life is an education initiative that aims to develop the various aspects of digital health literacy and promote healthy lifestyle behaviours among upper elementary students and families in BC. Learning for Life provides students with the competencies to use technology to support their health, to critically assess information provided through technology, and to balance the helpfulness of technology with the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviours (using Canadian guidelines). The initiative was created by a group of researchers in UBC Faculty of Medicine's Digital Emergency Medicine Office who explore and advance the use of information and communication technologies to connect people to quality health information. Learning for Life resources have been collaboratively developed with a multi-sectoral, inter-professional panel of education, clinical and public health experts. Learning for Life offers a suite of resources for grade 4-7 teachers. These resources include two accessible and easy-to-use teacher toolkits with lesson plans connected to the K-9 core competencies. Activities for students include in-class and take-home activities, along with exciting online choose-your-own-adventure graphic novels!

Research on the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions has grown substantially in the past 15 years, and has spread from clinical/medical interventions to more population-based application such as at the school level. For students, training in mindfulness practice has demonstrated improvements in working memory, attention, academic skills, social skills, emotional regulation, and self-esteem, as well as self-reported improvements in mood and decreases in anxiety, stress, and fatigue. This approach can be used at the start or end of class, or between activities; it can happen during a transition time, as a way to help students calm and prepare for a reflective activity after physical activity.

Description
This activity helps children learn to integrate the sexual parts of their bodies with the rest of their bodies. The activity reinforces that the child is the owner of his/her body and must take responsibility for it. The teacher acknowledges that the private parts of the body are often ignored or given silly names, then provides the correct names. Next the children are given an opportunity to draw male and female external genitals on outline figures. The teacher makes clear that these parts are private, that they may feel good when they are touched, that touching is done only in private, and that, except for health reasons, no one has the right to touch someone else's private parts without permission.

Description
The Every Teacher Project is a national study of Canadian educators’ perceptions and experiences of LGBTQ-inclusive education, designed to identify and make widely available the collective expertise of teachers and educational workers on inclusive education practices for sexual and gender minority students. The Every Teacher Project attracted tremendous support from project partner The Manitoba Teachers’ Society and from every national, provincial and territorial teacher organization in the publicly funded school systems of Canada. With their help in recruiting, researchers completed the project with 3,400 survey participants and an additional 24 focus groups, far exceeding our initial goals and making this the largest study of its kind in the world to date.
