- Description
- Gratitude is linked with many physical, social and emotional benefits and is an important skill to foster with children and youth. When choosing an action to do so, however, research indicates that if the activity is forced or feels like homework it isn’t a good match. The outcome isn’t authentic and the results fall short of the potential benefits that experiencing gratitude offers. The most effective gratitude activities are ones that engage children’s interests and strengths.

- Description
- This document contains tips and tricks for teaching the newly proposed Environmental Science coursework that will be implemented with the BC Draft Curriculum in the near future. My goal was to provide teaching strategies, assessment suggestions, field trip opportunities, and classroom ideas that are student led learning opportunities. In this document, you will NOT find worksheets or seat work. My hope was to provide invigorating ideas involving Environmental Science that will spark debate and critical thinking in your classroom. This document may be used or adapted for any science class. This was done as a Teach BC Assignment for my education coursework with the UNBC Education Program. I hope you enjoy it!

- Description
- A Getting to Know You Session is intended to provide clarity about both the differences and the similarities between the “focus child” and the other students. Using a powerpoint presentation and class dialogue, photos of the child help to correct assumptions, provide accurate information and begin to remove hesitations about getting to know their classmate. To be successful, it requires an adult facilitator who is able to model non-judgmental, curious and accepting behaviours and who has a relationship with the parents or caregivers of the focus child.

- Description
- For decades, people have debated the question: Is there a Scientific Basis for Race? The answer is…still under discussion. Many argue that race is socially constructed and that we are all part of the same human race. At the same time, scientists continue to research health issues, like sickle-cell anemia or diabetes, that impact some racial communities more than others. Why? Your assignment is to explore a topic in which Scientists have explored or had to address the idea of race! This could be with regards to medicine, sports, public health, scientific testing, genetics, and more.

- Description
- Group agreements (not rules!) help to create safe and caring spaces that will enhance any group activity. They serve as a set of clear, co-created guidelines to help participants feel comfortable with each other in an atmosphere of safety, respect and trust. Everyone shares the responsibility for the experience and once developed, a group can regularly re-visit the agreements to see if they are still working and make changes if issues come up.

- Description
- Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Solidarity” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette examines the response of labour, social groups and environmentalists to sweeping changes introduced by the Social Credit government in 1983. The resulting coalition of protests groups pushed the province to the verge of a general strike before a mediated solution was achieved by Jack Munro. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. - Description
- Circle Sharing can encourage students to feel secure and calm. It encourages healthy relationships amongst youth in their classrooms and schools that promotes “integration”. According to author and psychiatrist Dan Seigel when we integrate within relationships, we honour differences between ourselves and others, This promotes linkages through compassionate understanding and communication. Integration creates harmony.
