This guide provides teachers with a framework for teaching environmental education through an integrated approach. Facilitating environmental education within all curriculum areas rather than isolating it shows the importance of the environment on students’ daily lives and within their community. The Experiential Learning Cycle Model (direct experience, critical reflection, conceptionalization) is explained. As well, the principals for conceptualizing environmental education are described through the CARE model (complexity, aesthetics, responsibility, and ethics).

Description
Animation is a relatively overlooked area of art education and educators are not likely to have experience with the positive learning prospects that can be incorporated into the classroom. This medium proposes to encompass all teaching areas to broaden the spectrum of educational possibilities of all types of learners, including those with learning disabilities. Students and teachers show an enthusiasm for the medium but may lack the educational tools or, hold certain assumptions about animation that may make it a difficult medium to use within the confines of the classroom or institution. The intent of this project is to supply the reader with concrete forms and ideas that can assist educators in their attempts to integrate art education with different subject matter. Teaching aids such as simplified lesson plans for animation projects are included as well as discussions surrounding the benefits gained through using animation techniques and its historical development.

This lesson plan looks at Japanese-Canadian internment during WW2 through a study of two children's books: 'Naomi’s Road' by Joy Kogawa, and 'A Place Where Sunflowers Grow' by Amy Lee-Tai. 'Naomi's Road' is a novel about a young girl that relates a tale of unquenchable human spirit, undaunted by prejudice and unable to let go of hope. 'A Place Where Sunflowers Grow' by Amy Lee-Tai looks at imprisonment through the eyes of a child, and offers beautiful, haunting depictions of life in a Japanese internment camp during World War 2.

Tikho’s Story is a slideshow CAWST’s Youth Wavemakers made with a young girl in Zambia named Tikho. Tikho took video and photos to document the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues her community is facing. Tikho is the daughter of Gladys, a nurse who works at Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SHIP), CAWST’s WET Centre in Zambia. Students hear about WASH issues in from Tikho’s perspective. They also receive an overall message of hope, as Tikho shares the solutions implemented by her community to prevent disease caused by poor WASH. This slideshow also comes with a lesson plan, games, and action planning resources for students who want to get involved.

Description
Lesson activities to accompany the vignette "Canning Salmon” from the acclaimed Knowledge Network series; Working People: A History of Labour in British Columbia produced by Landrock Entertainment. The vignette explores the lives of cannery workers in the early part of the 20th century. The vignette is in the format of a visual essay and uses song to tell the story of life in a coastal cannery. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. The Shoreline Cleanup Curriculum Guide encourages students to engage with nature in a way that immediately shows them how easy it is to make a positive change to our environment. We developed this K-7 curriculum guide to help you integrate the Shoreline Cleanup into your school year, using both indoor and outdoor lessons for your students. The multi-disciplinary Shoreline Cleanup lessons allow you to connect these lessons to your existing curriculum themes and units of study. You may use the unit as a whole or select individual lesson to compliment your planning. The cross-curricular activities in this guide will have your students making art projects, reading stories, running through obstacle courses, solving math problems, exploring biology and doing what they probably do best – having fun! We hope you are inspired to bring the Shoreline Cleanup into your students’ lives! Register you Schoolyard cleanup at ShorelineCleanup.ca

Description
"Secret Path" was written by Gord Downie and illustrated by Jeff Lemire and illustrates the hardship and history of residential schooling in Canada . This book was inspired by an Anishinaabe boy named Chanie Wenjack who ran away from his residential school in 1966 and died on the way to his home with the Marten Falls First Nation. The story is a graphic novel accompanied by a soundtrack written by Downie, and was released in October of 2016. The release of the book was followed by an hour long special on CBC that tells the story in animation with the soundtrack. All of the proceeds from the book, album, and performance will go to the National Center for Truth and Reconciliation. Here are some ideas for centers/stations that could compliment the use of Secret Path as a resource in text, soundtrack and film forms. The book has immense possibilities and because of its graphic novel form it could be adapted to suit the needs (and appropriateness) of a variety of grades and subjects.

Description
Here are Science and Social Studies A/B Year Schedules. These are meant for schools from K-7 who want to have alternating years teaching different Science and Social Studies curriculum. These schedules help with the split classes (i.e. Grade 3/4, Grade 4/5 etc) and make it easier for teachers to not have to teach two curriculums for split classes. Enjoy!
