Description
In completing the language recording handbook, other important issues were identified for review, including the need to archive existing resources. In particular, the care and treatment of valuable cultural recordings, both analogue and digital, was identified as a concern. This handbook responds to the expressed need for information related to archiving materials. It has been written for people who do not have extensive technical expertise. It is intended to assist language teachers, community members, and anyone else who is interested in supporting language programs.

This guide provides teachers with a framework for teaching environmental education through an integrated approach. Facilitating environmental education within all curriculum areas rather than isolating it shows the importance of the environment on students’ daily lives and within their community. The Experiential Learning Cycle Model (direct experience, critical reflection, conceptionalization) is explained. As well, the principals for conceptualizing environmental education are described through the CARE model (complexity, aesthetics, responsibility, and ethics).

Description
This lesson plan looks at Japanese-Canadian internment during WW2 through a study of two children's books: 'Naomi’s Road' by Joy Kogawa, and 'A Place Where Sunflowers Grow' by Amy Lee-Tai. 'Naomi's Road' is a novel about a young girl that relates a tale of unquenchable human spirit, undaunted by prejudice and unable to let go of hope. 'A Place Where Sunflowers Grow' by Amy Lee-Tai looks at imprisonment through the eyes of a child, and offers beautiful, haunting depictions of life in a Japanese internment camp during World War 2.

Tikho’s Story is a slideshow CAWST’s Youth Wavemakers made with a young girl in Zambia named Tikho. Tikho took video and photos to document the water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) issues her community is facing. Tikho is the daughter of Gladys, a nurse who works at Seeds of Hope International Partnerships (SHIP), CAWST’s WET Centre in Zambia. Students hear about WASH issues in from Tikho’s perspective. They also receive an overall message of hope, as Tikho shares the solutions implemented by her community to prevent disease caused by poor WASH. This slideshow also comes with a lesson plan, games, and action planning resources for students who want to get involved.

This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history.

Description
Link to Laura Candler's File Cabinet on Cooperative Learning: Cooperative learning is a powerful teaching strategy that's more than just a passing fad. Research has shown that when implemented properly, students in cooperative learning classrooms outperform their peers in traditional classrooms. The key is knowing how to implement the strategies to foster interaction while making sure all students are held accountable. Dr. Spencer Kagan developed the "structural" approach to cooperative learning, and I've found it to be extremely effective. I highly recommend his book Cooperative Learning which is available from Amazon.com.

Description
Connecting With Nature is aligned with Acting Today, Shaping Tomorrow, the Ontario Ministry of Education’s policy framework for environmental education. It is designed to help students understand how their daily choices affect nature. There are 16 cross- curricular lessons in the educational resource, each comprising idea / activity-based learning that inspires environmental stewardship in both the classroom and beyond, culminating in a celebration of all they have learned. In addition, students have the opportunity, through inquiry-based learning, to create their own “class foundation” focused on their collective interests and actions.
