Communication I can understand and share information about a topic that is important to me I communicate effectively in well-constructed forms that are effective in terms of my audience and purpose. Creative Thinking I deliberately learn a lot about something (e.g., by doing research, talking to others or practising) so that I am able to generate new ideas or ideas just pop into my head. I can get new ideas in areas in which I have an interest and build my skills to make them work.

The vignette explores the lives of cannery workers in the early part of the 20th century. The vignette is in the format of a visual essay and uses song to tell the story of life in a coastal cannery. This is a unit created by the Labour History Project, a group of retired and current British Columbia teachers collaborating to develop a series of lesson plans, activities, and workshops focused on labour studies and labour history. Description
Fairy Tales are a wonderful genre to explore how gender has been portrayed historically and in current times. Traditional fairy tales and fractured ones (modern day ones with a twist) allow primary students to think critically about how men and women are portrayed and compare these portrayals to their own families and communities. This instructional sample allows students to explore relationship dynamics, and factors that influence self-identity, through a gender-based lens.
