- Description
- This info-graphic on BC teachers' perspectives on the increasing level of child poverty in British Columbia and its impact on children's learning was developed by the antipoverty action group of the BCTF Committee for Action on Social Justice using data from the BCTF Poverty and Education Survey: A Teachers' Perspective and the 2015 First Call Child Poverty Report Card. It can be used as a conversation starter in your classroom or with your colleagues during the first week of Antipoverty month in February. Consult the document "Antipoverty month resources, Week 1", for follow up activities.

- Description
- This unit is based on the concept explored in David J. Smith’s book, If the World Were a Village. In his book, Smith takes global demographics and statistics on standards of living and reduces them to a village of one hundred people. We have taken this concept and condensed it into roughly what the world would be like if it were a classroom of twenty-something students.

- Description
- This lesson is intended to encourage discussions on World Food Day (October 16). It includes short lesson ideas through which you can begin these discussions at any grade level. Beyond these initial ideas, some extension ideas are included that invite further discussions of food growth, access to healthy foods, food insecurity, nutrition, and poverty. Teachers can use these as a springboard and adapt them for their own use.
