Grâce à quatre courtes biographies de personnalités engagées pour la cause autochtone, les élèves lisent et complètent des textes à trous sur le thème de l'engagement et des défis des Premières Nations. Le contenu des biographies est organisé en stations disponibles autour de la classe. Après l'activité, les élèves écrivent une petite réflexion sur leur réaction et la personnalité de leur choix.

Afin de souligner le centenaire des premiers succès des femmes en relation avec le droit de vote au Canada, Historica Canada (le plus grand organisme du pays dédié à l’accroissement de la sensibilisation de l’histoire et de la citoyenneté canadiennes) a créé ce guide pédagogique. Les activités incluses dans ce guide ont été développées en ligne avec les concepts du Projet de la pensée historique du Dr Peter Seixas; elles complètent les curriculums canadiens des niveaux de l’intermédiaire et du secondaire. Le guide invite les élèves à approfondir leur compréhension de l’égalité entre les sexes et de la démocratie, grâce à la recherche et l’analyse, à des sujets de discussion intéressants et à des activités de groupe. Il demande aux élèves d’examiner les questions d’identité, d’équité, d’activisme et de justice sociale dans des contextes historiques et contemporains.

To mark the centennial of the first achievements of women’s suffrage in Canada, Historica Canada (the country’s largest organization dedicated to enhancing awareness of Canada’s history and citizenship) has created this Education Guide. Developed in line with the concepts created by Dr. Peter Seixas and the Historical Thinking Project, this Guide complements Canadian middle-school and high-school curricula. It invites students to deepen their understanding of gender equality and democracy through research and analysis, engaging discussion questions, and group activities. It asks students to examine issues of identity, equity, activism and justice in historical and contemporary contexts.

Everyone has a unique story to share. Stories help us learn about ourselves, our families, and other people. Curiosity and wonder leads us to new discoveries about ourselves and the world around us. By reading “And Tango Makes Three”, we not only learn about penguins and the penguin life cycle, but about other family structures (i.e. same-sex families) and how same-sex couples can become parents. This lesson plan can be used cross-curricula with Socials, PHE, ELA, and may also be used in Science (i.e. if combined with a stronger focus on the penguin life cycle, habitat, etc.)

Description
For centuries, kings and governments have waged wars. And wars are expensive. One of the primary ways to pay for war has been to collect taxes. By the end of the American War of Independence, the total debt incurred by the new nation and its individual states was around $65 million. Faced with this massive debt, the Secretary of the Treasury needed to come up with revenue so he introduced a series of taxes including an excise tax on whisky. But the small farmers in Pennsylvania started to talk rebellion and the United States government raised an army to fight its own people.
